ROP Annual Rural Caucus

Thanks for joining us for the Rural Caucus and Strategy Session!
Saturday, May 7th in Bend, OR

Every year the ROP brings together rural and small town activists and organizers to reflect on our last year of organizing and to share strategies for our next. We hold strategy sessions on topics that reflect on our moment in time, the issues impacting rural and small town Oregon, and how to continue to build our long-term movement for justice, democracy and sustainability.

In 2011, we’re at an exciting moment to consider how we can use our power to make real change. Egypt, Bahrain, Libya and Wisconsin are demonstrating what it means to resist.  In Oregon we might not yet have the call to action of Wisconsin or Egypt, but we do have a vibrant rural movement that we’ve all helped to build and nurture.  How will we use it?  What can we learn from other movements at this time?

How is your community responding to this ongoing economic crisis? What are you working to change, what inspires you? How do you want to build power and use it in your community?

This year’s Caucus featured sessions on creating a Welcoming Community for immigrants, recruiting local candidates to build power over the long haul, working for LGBTQ inclusion & safety in rural Oregon, and much more.

This year’s Caucus also included an action at Congressman Walden’s office.  Rural Oregonians from around the state declared our resistance to billions for the military while cutting across the board in our communities.  Read more and download a flyer here.

Perhaps most importantly, the ROP Caucus is a time to re-energize, reconnect and revitalize.  Change takes time.  The Caucus offers us an opportunity to build relationships, learn skills, and share the experiences & passion that sustain our work for justice.
