What is the STAND Guide?

The STAND Election Guide, designed by and for small-town and rural voters for two decades, breaks down confusing ballot measures and election-time rhetoric, making tough issues accessible through our shared values of freedom, democracy, and human dignity.

In past years, over 30,000 STAND Election Guides in English and Spanish were distributed throughout Oregon, most of which were personally delivered neighbor-to-neighbor!

The 2026 STAND Election Guide features:

  • A Neighbor-to-Neighbor invitation to use our values, our vote, and our voice this election year.
  • Short, concise analysis of statewide ballot measures in easy-to-understand language — no jargon allowed!
  • Basic information on who can vote, how to vote, what elected positions are responsible for, and how to parse through the election-time spin and stay grounded

ROP groups have a long history of engaging our communities in critical thinking and democratic dialogue.

Here are some ideas of ways you might use STAND Guides and other materials below:

1. Consider your options.

  • Read about voter conversations to learn lessons from other human dignity leaders doing this work in rural Oregon. Download our conversation tool here.
  • Decide how many Election Guides you’d like to order in English and in Spanish, and/or what other tools and materials you want to make use of from the list below.

2. Decide how you will deliver these materials to your community to get the 2026 STAND Election Guide, 866-Our-Vote, or other materials into the hands of your community members, start conversations, and activate voters

  • Will you go door-to-door to knock-and-drop when ballots arrive between Oct 19th and 26th?
  • Will you survey candidates or host a forum?
  • Will you mail STAND Guides to your contact list?
  • What about pulling a list of voters from the Voter Action Network (with ROP’s help) that you could start a longer conversation with?
  • Will you hand out STAND Guides at candidate forums, ballot parties, or other public gatherings? We encourage you to have a plan for personalized delivery!
  • Will you collaborate with your County Clerk to put supportive messages about our free and fair elections into the local newspaper or onto the airwaves of a community radio station throughout October and November?

3. Place your order as soon as possible!

Please use the form below. We will do our best to fill orders promptly but please expect a 2-3 week turnaround if you are not able to pick up your order from Cottage Grove, Bend, or Hood River.

Orders placed on or before Aug 31st should be in your hands! Reach out to us at office@rop.org. if you have yet to receive your order.

If you want to talk through ideas, feel free to email ROP at office@rop.org or call us at (503)-543-8417. We would love to help you figure out your delivery plan!

4. Practice and talk to people

On our September Kitchen Table Conversation, Stephanie and a brave volunteer led a mock conversation as an example of how you can start a conversation with a STAND Guide this fall. Watch them improvising here.

Other Election Resources for your use

866-OUR-VOTE

866-OUR-VOTE is a national hotline that anyone can call to get questions answered about the election. You can ask anything from “Where do I drop off my ballot?” to “Someone is threatening me at a drop site, what do I do?”. Call or text 866-OUR-VOTE (866-687-8683) to speak with a trained Election Protection volunteer. Visit https://866ourvote.org/ for more information. Sharing this resource with your community is a great way to make sure folks of all backgrounds have somewhere to go with questions and feel like they can participate in election protection. Would you like postcards with information about the hotline? Email office@rop.org and we can mail you some!

Debunking Douglas Frank and other election deniers

Douglas Frank is a paid propagandist trying to create chaos and confusion by telling people our elections are not secure. This website www.truthaboutdouglasfrank.com was developed to counter the dangerous and misleading presentations that Douglas Frank is making to county commission meetings and community groups across the state. Has Douglas Frank visited your county? This website includes messaging you can use to write a letter to the editor or social media post to cut through his misinformation!

Join us for our next Kitchen Table Conversations: Monthly Membership Meetings

ROP is convening statewide virtual gatherings for ROP members across Oregon every month from August to December to connect and build shared analysis and strategy around election season. Please note: Kitchen Table Conversations are for member organizations (aka Human Dignity Groups) in the Rural Organizing Project network, groups ordering STAND Guides, and individuals directly invited by ROP staff. If you were not invited by ROP staff and are not part of a member group (see list here), please email office@rop.org to share your interest in participating in these Zooms before registering

Candidate Forums and Surveys: A Basic How-To from ROP

This guide helps groups cut through the jargon and scripted talking points to learn where candidates really stand on the issues we care about and then get this information to as many people as possible.

Oregon Secretary of State Elections Toolkit

The Oregon Secretary of State Office invites voters, county election offices, community partners, and any organization involved in civic education and voter outreach to use the 2026 Elections Toolkit as a trusted resource for election information. All materials available in the 2026 Elections Toolkit are official, nonpartisan, and free to use.

Protect Oregon Rapid Response Toolkit: Hands Off Our Ballots!

The toolkit includes legal updates, core messaging, visual assets, a “say this, not that” guide, and news clips. To help share accurate information and offer message guidance rooted in Oregon values, we will be regularly updating this document throughout the 2026 election cycle.

Need to order STAND guides?

ROP covers the design and content costs for member groups. We never want cost to be a barrier to your organizing. If it is, please pay what you can! If what you can pay is $0, please email your order details (number of guides, shipping address, etc) to office@rop.org and we will confirm your order manually.

STAND Guide costs have barely increased since 2020. We’re working hard to keep orders affordable so that STAND Guides are accessible to all volunteer organizations, but we could use your support to cover the true cost!

If you are able to pay, we have included some suggested costs below.

$0.30 per guide (or $30 per 100 guides): Suggested donation to cover some of our costs

$0.40 per guide (or $40 per 100 guides): Fully covers the cost of printing and shipping guides. PACs and political parties must pay this price for ROP’s legal compliance. If you are ordering 500 or more, please contact us for bulk discounts.

$0.75 per guide (or $75 per 100 guides): Covers and exceeds the cost of guides to help fund election organizing in rural Oregon.
