Dear ROPnet,
We are so excited to introduce the newest member of the ROP staff team: Leland Moon!
If you were at this year’s Rural Caucus and Strategy Session in Baker City, you may have had a chance to meet Leland, who was frequently holding down registration and the merch table. Maybe you were one of the lucky ones who got to write or draw something on Leland’s Caucus shirt!
Leland joined the ROP staff team in April as our Finance and Operations Coordinator. We have loved getting to know the incredible Leland; they are a devoted pet parent, keep us all laughing, and are a whiz at technology solutions to keep us organized and secure. As our team leans into the work of fighting authoritarianism and defending democracy with the most Human Dignity Groups across the state in ROP history, we can breathe easier knowing Leland is holding down the operations infrastructure.
Read on to learn more about Leland, and please join us in welcoming them to the team by sending them an email at leland@rop.org.
Warmly,
Sam and the ROP team
Leland Moon comes to ROP after over a decade spent managing operations and finance in the construction and tech industries, fostering successful team environments and leading and managing projects. Leland values creating the conditions for meaningful working relationships–ensuring transparency and equity for everyone and conflict resolution that revolves around empathy. Leland has led efforts to promote transparent and equal pay for marginalized communities, including creating one of the first ever equal and transparent pay policies in their industry.
Leland was named one of the first commissioners of the New Portlanders Policy Commission to integrate immigrant and refugee community voices into the City of Portland’s policies and decision-making. They have also served as a board member of the Portland Noise Review Board. Leland has also volunteered as a teacher’s assistant via The Shadow Project, helping elementary school kids read at Pleasant Valley Elementary School. In their spare time, they love to go on walks with their adorable pets, Whisper and Professor Eleanor.
