The outcry happening across the country in response to the horrific conditions in which Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) are holding children and families begs the question: how will we, as people who care about human dignity and justice, make our opposition visible? On the heels of a landmark victory in the legislature to pass drivers licenses for all, rural Oregonians will be holding vigil over the next few days as part of the nationwide Lights for Liberty: A Vigil to End Human Concentration Camps. Read on to see which communities have Lights for Liberty events already announced and learn how you and your group can take action!

We say enough! Rural Oregon is not up for grabs. In the coming days, we will be gathering around the state and nation to show our solidarity, our outrage and our commitment to holding ICE accountable for their inhumane treatment of people at the border, in detention centers and across the country. Is your group planning a vigil or action that isn’t listed here? Let us know and we will share it out!
Would you like to plan a vigil or explore other ways for your group to take action? ROP is happy to help you plan a vigil or put together a strategy session to talk about your group’s next steps locally to get ICE out of our communities. Reach out to us at hannah@rop.org to let us know how we can support your next steps!
