We invite you, ROP friends and supporters, human dignity leaders, and small-town organizers, to have conversations this election season. While the pandemic has made us rethink how we talk to one another, connecting is still very much possible, whether it’s outside of your local post office, among neighbors, with your virtual book group, or at a socially distant potluck!
ROP groups have a long history of engaging our communities in critical thinking and democratic dialogue, and the pandemic won’t slow us down. On this page, you will find:

Get this guide to help you move the conversations you’re having with voters into your digital neighborhood as well. Includes access to election season graphics for Facebook and Instagram, text, and a suggested calendar for posting to support your group in having positive online conversations about what can keep us united: a deep love for our communities and a commitment to the democratic process.
As rumors fly about who can and can’t vote by mail, and threats to a fair election escalate, rural Oregonians are sharing paper and digital STAND Election guides with their neighbors to offer clear information about how people who are displaced by the fires or who were wrongfully evicted can still vote by mail, are leading car caravans to safely drop off ballots, and surveying their local candidates! On our special 2020 election edition of Rural Roots Rising, you’ll hear from rural Oregonians about what’s at stake on Oregon’s statewide ballot measures, as well as ways to take action to encourage electoral change in your community. Here are some ideas for how to get the 2020 STAND Election Guide into the hands of your community members, start conversations, and enfranchise voters:
1. Consider your options.
- Take a moment to read about voter conversations and glean lessons from other human dignity leaders doing this work in rural Oregon (download here).
- Decide how many STAND Voter Guides you’d like to order in English and in Spanish.
2. Decide how you will deliver STAND Voter Guides to your community.
- Will you go door-to-door to knock-and-drop when ballots arrive in mid-October? Will you hand them out outside your local Post Office? Will you mail Election Guides to your group’s contact list?
- Will you include Election Guides as part of the free food boxes you are delivering? What about pulling a list of voters from the Voter Action Network (with ROP’s help) that you could start a longer conversation with? We encourage you to have a plan for personalized delivery!
3. Organize!

Les invitamos a ustedes, lxs amigxs y apoyantes de ROP, líderes de dignidad humana, y organizadores de pequeños pueblos, a tener conversaciones esta temporada de elecciones. Mientras que la pandemia ha cambiado la manera en que conversamos, la conexión sigue siendo posible, si está fuera de sus oficinas postales, entre sus vecinxs, con sus grupos de lectura, ¡o en una cena compartida distanciada! - ¿Van a incluir las Guías Electorales como parte de las cajas de comida gratis que van a entregar? ¿Qué tal descargar una lista de votantes de La Red de Acción de Votantes (con la ayuda de ROP)?
- ¿Hay gente con la que podrían tener una conversación más larga? ¡Les animamos a tener un plan para la entrega personalizada!
